Markku Känsäkoski

Chairman of the Board

Markku is a seasoned CTO/CEO and innovator who, over a career spanning two decades at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, worked extensively in optical measurement technology and bio microsystems applied research, development and commercialization. He later joined Ginolis, contributing as CTO to industrial-level medical device automated manufacturing lines design and deliveries before founding Smart PD Solutions Oy where — as CTO — he leads development of advanced home-dialysis products. Over his career, Markku has been active inventor and is involved in a number of patent filings and licensing evaluations.

Ilkka Kaisto

Board Member

Ilkka has over 20 years entrepreneurship experience in commercializing new products from research. Some examples include large led video screens and infotainment systems, 3D-coordinate measurement systems to shipbuilding. Ilkka has worked in R&D, business development and quality, in manager to Vice President positions (1984 – 2005). In 2011 he started at VTT as Director of PrintoCent to run industrial clustering, pilot factory building and joint industry/academy project creation for Printed Intelligence technologies. MSc and Lic.Tech. in electronics and optoelectronics engineering.

Sauli Törmänen

Board member

Sauli is a serial start-up entrepreneur and he has over 40 years of experience in global sensors and instrumentation business. He has founded and/or helped to develop numerous successful companies, such as TopWave Instruments Ltd, KSV Instruments Ltd, Biolin Scientific Ab, BioNavis Ltd, FocalSpec Ltd. Sauli is also an advisory member of several other start-up companies, such as Cooliblade Ltd, TimeGate Systems Ltd, Salgrom Ltd etc. Sauli has had several successful exits during his career.

Juha Rantala

Board advisor​

Juha is an engineering entrepreneur and executive with 20+ years in photonics and semiconductors. He is a world leading industrial expert in the segment of siloxane semiconductor materials and his technology has resulted in several multi-million € businesses while used in billions of phones, displays and sensor devices. Juha has also pioneered printed intelligence with materials and manufacturing processes. During his entrepreneurship, Juha has started several companies and executed multiple successful exits. Before his entrepreneurship he was one of the youngest PhDs in chemistry in Finland at the age of 24. He is also an adjunct professor in materials chemistry. He has published more than 70 scientific and technical articles, authored 3 technical editorials and contributed as an inventor to about 100 patents.

Matti Koivu

Board Advisor

M.Sc Matti Koivu has over 30 year long international experience in in setting up new businesses, productizing new technologies, systems and services and managing multi-cultured and multifunctional teams. Matti has worked with international consumer brands, technology companies and diagnostic companies from Asia to the USA. He has experiences  from multinational corporations, corporate venturing and establishing and developing startup companies.
